Michael Messmer
Financial Advisor
Michael Messmer is the Founder and Lead Financial Advisor of Capital Preservation Group, LLC. He opened his business in 2019 at the age of 29 because he believed he could develop a more genuine connection and level of appreciation for his clients than had he remained an employee under someone else’s vision. He founded Capital Preservation Group on the principles of respect, integrity, and honesty.
Michael graduated from Ohio University with a triple major in finance, economics, and marketing and intended to follow in the family’s real estate trade. When the great recession hit, and Michael saw firsthand how improper planning could devastate a family’s savings, he switched his focus to financial planning. He holds both Series 6 and Series 63 certifications. Michael uses his experience and education to plan with clients and prospects ways to diversify their portfolios to withstand whatever might come their way.
At the Capital Preservation Group, Michael focuses on the things that can be controlled–tax mitigation, risk management, and fee reduction—and always with the client’s best interest in mind. Pensions and Social Security are no longer enough to live the retirement dream, so Michael starts the planning process early and is agile enough to pivot when economies change. For Michael, it’s not the numbers that set him apart; it’s in being honest, caring, thoughtful, and approachable. A financial advisor that feels more like a friend.
Michael and his wife Sydney have a 3-year-old daughter, Saylor. They’re expecting their second child in August 2021 and have a lively Goldendoodle, Cooper, to keep the family active. Michael has skied since he was 3 years old and met Sydney on a ski trip in Breckenridge, CO, and eventually proposed to her at that spot. He grew up spending his summers at the family lake house on Middle Bass Island in Lake Erie and is now an avid fisherman.
Mary Kate Findley
Director of Client Services
Mary Kate has a passion for helping people add clarity to their financial picture. As the Director of Client Services, she provides support for clients, creating a seamless and stress-free planning process.
Mary Kate graduated from Miami University with a degree in Zoology and Anthropology. After completing a miniMBA certification from Miami’s Farmer School of Business, Mary Kate transitioned from the Zoo world to the Business world. Serving in the non-profit world for many years, Mary Kate developed a passion that everyone deserves financial security and to have a plan in place for themselves and their loved ones. A plan that can meet them where they are and help achieve their goals.
Whether it’s risk management, savings and debt paydown strategies, family planning, retirement, or tax mitigation—Mary Kate believes in a holistic plan that adapts with you throughout your lifetime. At Capital Preservation Group, Mary Kate wants people to feel confident with their financial decisions and know there is a team here that always works with the client’s best interest in mind.
In her spare time, Mary Kate enjoys spending time with her husband Tom, daughter, Olivia and their dog Finn. You may see them while attending a FC Cincinnati or Red’s games over the Summer. Mary Kate also enjoys playing in a sand volleyball league and jumping onto a pickleball court when she finds the time! Mary Kate and her twin sister are big travelers, with a goal of visiting a new state or country every year.
